County Card Scheme

Member Benefit

The Durham County Card

Since 2020, all current playing members of clubs in the Durham Union and Association are eligible for a County Card as a benefit of affiliation. The County Card provides the opportunity to play more than 1,300 golf clubs who offer special rates throughout the country.

It is available to any affiliated member of a participating Durham club who is registered with WHS. Participating clubs will decide on the County Card green fee (typically the members' guest rate) and any restrictions for use. There will be no charge for the card other than the affiliation fee that every golfer already pays as part of their annual club subscription.

The County Card is moving to digital. Physical cards are still available from your Club Secretary while remaining stocks last, but they are not being reprinted — once they run out, the Golf Genius app will be the only way to obtain a card. Members are encouraged to switch to the digital card now.

Getting Your Card

How to get your County Card

Two ways to get a card — for now

Durham still holds a stock of physical cards, so during the changeover you can obtain your card either way. Those cards are not being reprinted: once the current stock runs out, the Golf Genius app will be the only route. If you are getting a card for the first time, or renewing, please use the app.

Recommended Digital card via the Golf Genius app

You will need your CDH (WHS handicap) number and the surname held on your club record. The card is issued free of charge — the checkout below completes at zero cost.

1
Register with Golf Genius
Register on the DCGU Golf Genius portal ↗ using your WHS/CDH number and surname.
2
Download the app
Install the free Golf Genius app from the App Store or Google Play and sign in with the details you registered.
3
Open the menu
In the app menu, select County Card.
4
Add to cart
Add the County Card to your cart. Your eligibility is checked automatically against your club's affiliation.
5
Check out — free
Complete the checkout. There is no charge at any point; no payment details are required.
6
View your card
Your card appears when you click the down arrow. Show it on your phone when booking or arriving at a participating club.

While stocks last Physical card from your Club Secretary

Physical cards remain available from your home club while the current stock lasts. Each card is signed by the club and is valid from the date of issue until the date your next club subscription falls due. If your card is not issued automatically at renewal, ask your Club Secretary or Manager. When the stock is exhausted, cards will not be reprinted and the app will replace them — a physical card already in your possession stays valid until its printed expiry.

Eligibility
The card is available to any affiliated member of a participating Durham club who is registered with WHS. If the app cannot find your home club, that club may not have opted into the scheme — check the Durham club list at the foot of this page.
Validity & Renewal
Either format is valid until your club's next subscription renewal date. With the digital card, once your club and affiliation fees are paid for the new year, refreshing the app shows an updated expiry date — there is nothing else to apply for. A physical card must be replaced by your club at renewal, for as long as stocks allow.
Using the Card
Present your card when booking or arriving at a participating club — either on screen in the Golf Genius app or as your signed physical card. Both are accepted. The green fee offered is at the club's discretion — typically the members' guest rate. Check with each club for any restrictions on availability.
No Cost to You
There is no additional charge for the County Card. It is a free benefit included in every golfer's annual club subscription as part of their club's DCGU affiliation fee. No separate payment is required.

Common Questions

County Card FAQs

I do not know my CDH number
If your home club uses Intelligent Golf you will find your CDH number in the IG Member app, or on your club website under the "My Golf" section. Other club member websites usually hold it in your player record. Otherwise, contact your Club Secretary or Handicap Secretary, who will be able to supply it.
The County Card on my app is showing as expired
Refresh the app on your device. Provided your club subscription and affiliation fee have been paid, a valid card with a new expiry date will then appear.
The app says it cannot find my home club
Check the list of participating Durham clubs below to see whether your club has agreed to accept County Cards — members are only eligible for a card if their club takes part. If your club is listed and the app still cannot find it, contact your Club Secretary in the first instance.
How do I refresh the app?
If you switch away from the app and come back, the County Card screen may not refresh on its own — you need to close the app fully and reopen it.

iPhone: return to the home screen. On devices with a home button, double-click it; on later devices, swipe smoothly up from the bottom of the screen. This shows all open apps side by side. Swipe the Golf Genius app up so it disappears off the top of the screen, then reopen it from the home screen.

Android: open the recent-apps view (the three lines or square icon at the bottom of the screen) to see all open apps side by side. Swipe until the Golf Genius app is in focus, then swipe it up to close it — or tap "Close all". Return to the home screen and open the app again. This refreshes any data linked to your County Card.
Can I still get a physical card?
Yes — for now. Durham still holds a stock of printed cards, available from your Club Secretary. They are not being reprinted, so once that stock is exhausted the Golf Genius app will be the only way to obtain a County Card. If you already hold a physical card it remains valid until its printed expiry date, and participating clubs will continue to accept it.
How much does the card cost?
Nothing. The County Card is free of charge — it is included in the affiliation fee already paid as part of your annual club subscription. The app checkout completes at zero cost and no payment details are required.
What green fee will I be charged?
Each participating club sets its own County Card rate — typically the members' guest rate — along with any restrictions on when the card can be used. Contact the club before you travel to confirm the rate and availability.
Still having problems?
Contact your Club Secretary in the first instance, or get in touch with the DCGU.
