This scheme invites club members affiliated to the Durham County Golf Union, to become a 'County Member' for only £4.00 per year by Standing Order, or a Life Member for £40 by cheque. (Please note that the DCGU no longer accepts annual payments of £4 by any other means than a standing order for new membership applications).
Each year a paid up member will receive a copy of the County Members Handbook in March, jam packed with of all sorts of information from results of all County Competitions and Team Matches from the year before to a comprehensive list of all fixtures for the coming year and much more.
For a full list of all paid up County Members in Durham County please go to the County Members page.
Additionally, all County Members in good standing shall, at the discretion of the County Members Committee, be entitled to compete in any competition or seasonal meeting arranged for County Members, on payment of the appropriate fee.
There are three meetings per year, one in Spring, one in Summer and one in Autumn. Places at these events are much sought after and sell out very quickly so County Members are advised to enter early using the forms in the centre of their handbook.
The winners from the Spring and Autumn events are put forward to a final, and the winners of the final from the combined competitions will be presented with Trophies by the Union.
County membership is obtained by the completion of an Application Form which should be returned to the County Secretary. Forms must be signed by your Club Secretary otherwise it will not be accepted and be accompanied by cheque for £40 for Life Membership, unless the standing order instruction at the bottom of the form is completed for the purpose of annual payment.
Special County Members ties are also available for a subsidised cost of only £5.00 and can be ordered directly from the County Secretary. The County Secretaries contact details can be found at the top of the home page.
Please note that membership of the County Member scheme does NOT confer attendance or voting rights at any meeting of the Union. All memberships are regularly reviewed, and the committee reserves the right to revoke or deny membership without explanation.
Paid up County Members are also afforded the opportunity to play many other courses in the County at a discounted rate as part of the County Members Privilege Scheme, providing that they are a member of one of the clubs that participate in this scheme.
At present the club participating are as follows:
Barnard Castle, Beamish Park, Billingham, Birtley, Bishop Auckland, Blackwell Grange, Boldon, Brancepeth Castle, Castle Eden, Chester le Street, Consett, Crook, Darlington, Dinsdale, Durham City, Eaglescliffe, Garesfield, George Washington, Hartlepool, Hetton le Hill, Heworth, High Throston, Hobson, Houghton le Spring, Ineos, Knotty Hill, Oakleaf, Ravensworth, Roseberry Grange Community, Ryton, Seaham, Seaton Carew, South Moor, South Shields, Tyneside, Wearside, Whickham, Whitburn and Woodham.
Unfortunately, if your home club does not participate in the scheme, then you are unable to gain this additional benefit of being a County Member.
In most cases the discount rate offered by participating clubs is that of a member's visitor, but tee times are subject to availability and the club may have restrictions on the number of county members visiting each day/week. County Members are advised to ring and book at least 24hours in advance and take their County Members Handbook with them to gain the discount.
