As the men's Governing Body of amateur golf in County Durham since 1908, the Durham County Golf Union devotes its resources primarily to the administration of county championships and team competitions as well as county teams and coaching programmes.
The DCGU is affiliated to England Golf, the country's National Governing Body (NGB) of amateur golf and carries out course measurement and rating duties on their behalf across the 44 affiliated clubs in the County. The DCGU is also the first contact for clubs with handicapping and rules queries.
The County Secretary acts as registrar for the County Membership Scheme and also administers the Senior County Card and English County Card scheme's which provide benefits such as the privilege of playing in County Salver competitions and discounted green fees.
Through its involvement with the County Golf Development Group, the DCGU supports the county's clubs in the recruitment and retention of new golfers of all ages into the regular participation and membership.
