Latest News

With courses not opening until the end of March, the DCGU Championship Committee have made a decision not to host any of its planned fixtures during April, to enable host clubs to prioritise their members who have seen little golf in recent months.

It is hoped that as many affected fixtures as possible will be rescheduled for later in the season and further details of each will be available on the fixture page in due course.

Welcome to the Durham County Golf Union

As the men's Governing Body of amateur golf in County Durham, the Durham County Golf Union devotes its resources primarily to the administration of county championships and team competitions as well as county teams and coaching programmes.

The DCGU is affiliated to England Golf, the country's National Governing Body (NGB) of amateur golf and carries out course measurement and standard scratch rating duties on their behalf across the 45 affiliated clubs in County Durham.

The County Secretary acts as registrar for the County Membership Scheme and also administers the Senior County Card and English County Card scheme's which provide affiliated club members with benefits such as the privilege of playing in County Salver competitions and discounted green fees.

Through its involvement with the County Golf Development Group, the DCGU supports the county's affiliated clubs in the recruitment and retention of new golfers of all ages into the regular participation and membership.

This website also includes information on the History and Executive of the Durham County Golf Union as well as Competitions, Results, News and the various County Members and Cards Schemes on offer.

SafeGolf Accreditation Webinar for clubs 13th January

With SafeGolf accreditation becoming a mandatory requirement of affiliation to England Golf, the DCGU are keen to support clubs in working towards accreditation to ensure that young people and vulnerable adults can enjoy our sport in a safe and welcoming environment.

We have teamed up with our neighbours Northumberland to host two webinars to help clubs understand the requirements and process of accreditation which we are fortunate to have Neil Burke, England Golf's North East CSO to deliver for us.

There will be 2 sessions (of the same webinar) which will take place on Tues 12th January (1pm) and Wednesday 13th January (6.30pm), which any club official/volunteer can join using the links below.

During the hour long session, Neil will take you through the accreditation process one step at a time, provide guidance on resources available to satisfy each piece of evidence required and answer any questions you may have.

For those clubs who have already registered for SafeGolf and are working towards accreditation, the session will help refocus your efforts after the festivities. For those clubs who have not yet started the process, it is important that you take a few minutes to register at the England Golf website as much of what is covered in the webinar will refer to the information supplied to clubs after they have registered.

You can register your club for SafeGolf in only a couple of minutes at the link below:

It would be great to have all Durham clubs registered by Christmas so that in the New Year you are all set to work towards achieving accreditation ahead of the March 31st deadline, with the help of these webinars and ongoing individual support from Neil.

The DCGU have also been working towards achieving SafeGolf ourselves as a County body and I'm pleased to say that we expect to be awarded accreditation by the end of 2020.

The links to join both webinars are below and can also be found on the DCGU website via the About/Safeguarding menu options.

Tues 12th January (1pm) -

Wed 13th January (6.30pm) -

There is no need to register and you can join us on the day with phone, tablet or laptop. If you are using a phone or tablet you are best to download the free zoom app in advance.

If there are any questions on SafeGolf in the mean time, please contact Neil Burke on 07736 880912.
